Frank Niehusmann studied philosophy and history at the Ruhr-University in Bochum/Germany (MA degree in 1986);
1983-1998 he was author, presenter and producer of radio- and tv-broadcastings in Germany.
Frank Niehusmann started working on compositions of electronic music in 1978; since that time he composed music for live performances, mixed-media events, sound-installations, experimental videos, tv-film, radio broadcasts, theatre- and CD-productions;
performances of his works took place in Argentina, Austria, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Spain, Turkey and USA; in 2005 he performed the work "Achtung! Future!" live at the WORLD EXPO in Aichi/Nagoya (Japan) for the cultural programme of the German Pavilion.
Frank Niehusmann received scholarships
at "Schloss Wiepersdorf" in Brandenburg/Germany (1992) and
at the "ZKM" Institute for Music and Acoustics in Karlsruhe/Germany (2004).
He was honored with several awards:
1997 at the competition of "Forum Geschichtskultur an Ruhr und Emscher", Dortmund/Germany, for his audio-visual composition "Heimat & Antarktis",
1998 at the festival "Blicke aus dem Ruhrgebiet" in Bochum/Germany for the music video "Emscher Park Overdrive" (collaboration with Arnd Stein),
2000 at the festival "Theaterzwang" in Dortmund/Germany for the multi-media play "Mama" (collaboration with Rolf Dennemann),
2002 at the International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art in Bourges/France for his composition "Untertagemusik Nr.1",
2004 at the "European Bell Festival 2004" in Karlsruhe/Germany with the commissioned work "WAS DA LOS IST",
2006 at the ZKM-competition "Short Cuts: Beauty" in the frame of the ISCM world new music festival in Stuttgart/Germany for his composition "Gasometer",
2006 at the "PHONURGIA NOVA" radio art competition for the radio play "Maschinen - ein Hörspiel" (collaboration with Karl-Heinz Mauermann). |
2000-2002 Frank Niehusmann was member of the executive committee of "artscenico e.V." (theatre, dance and multimedia productions, international projects)
